Lopullinen kuolinsyy epäselvä. Erittäin korkeat valkosoluarvot, eläinlääkäri ei koskaan ennen ollut nähnyt niin korkeita. Mahdollinen kokonaisvaltainen tulehdus tai leukemia. Myös munuaiset olivat lähes täysin tuhoutuneet, veressä runsaasti ureaa. Verikokeiden perusteella aneeminen. Lopetettu. Ei ruumiinavattu.
Final cause of death unclear. Very high white blood cell count, vet had never seen WBC count this high before. Possibly systemic inflammation or leukemia. The kidneys were also almost completely destroyed, high amount of urea in blood. Anemic based on the blood tests. PTS. No autopsy done.
Hopen tarina - Hope's story
Hope syntyi kahden pennun pentueeseen, joista toinen sisko kuoli 3 päivän ikäisenä. Emä sairasti vakavan kennelyskän tiineyden puolivälissä, jolla uskon olleen vaikutus asiaan. Emä ei hoitanut lähes ollenkaan kumpaakaan pennuista, joten otimme elossa olevan siskon pois ja aloin itse hoitamaan ja ruokkimaan sitä. Hopen paino nousi hyvin kuudenteen viikkoon saakka, jolloin sillä alkoi jatkuva ripuli ja oksentelu (ruoka tuli yhtäkkisesti takaisin ylös ilman pahoinvoinnin tyypillisiä merkkejä). Hopen ruokatorvi tutkittiin varjoaineella, mutta se oli normaali. Koska oksentelu, ripulointi ja painon putoaminen jatkui, päädyttiin ottamaan verikoe Hopen ollessa 7,5 viikon ikäinen.
Hope was born in a litter of two puppies, one of which died at the age of 3 days. The mother had severe kennel cough in the middle of the pregnancy, which I believe had an effect on this case. The mother barely took care of of her puppies, so we took the sister still alive away and I started to take care and feed her myself. Hope gained weight well until the sixth week, when she started having constant diarrhea and regurgitating. Hope’s esophagus was examined with contrast, but it was normal. Because the regurgitating, diarrhea and weight loss continued, it was decided to take a blood test when Hope was 7,5 weeks old.

Verinäyte otettiin 19.3.2018 illalla, aamulla eläinlääkäri soitti ja pyysi tuomaan heti lopetettavaksi, sillä ei toivoa parantumisen suhteen, ei hoitomahdollisuuksia. Hope söi kanssani muffinssia vielä ennen kuin lähdimme viimeiselle matkalle. En ole ikinä itkenyt niin paljoa kuin Hopen menetyksestä. Hope lopetettiin 20.3.2018 päivällä ja Hope nukahti ikiuneen nopeasti. Hopen tarina opetti minulle sen, että pentuaan hylkivä emo on yleensä aina oikeassa, että pennussa on jotain vialla.
Other results were within reference limits. The blood sample was taken in the evening of March 19th 2018, in the morning the vet called and asked to bring her immediately to be euthanized, because there is no hope for recovery, no treatment options available. Hope was eating a muffin with me even before we left for the last trip. I have never cried as much as I did over the loss of Hope. Hope was euthanized on March 20th 2018 on midday and she fell asleep very quickly. Hope’s story taught me that a mother who rejects her puppy is usually always right that there is something wrong with the puppy.
